I'm a storyteller who believes life is made up of the little moments and that the best photographs look for the in-between
If you want epic mountain views, but aren’t big hikers (or are worried about makeup melting off in the summer heat), a Skyline Drive or Blue Ridge Parkway tour is definitely the way to go.
A tour is basically my term for when we tackle a section of Skyline Drive or the Blue Ridge Parkway and visit my favorite overlooks and “leg stretchers” (views you can walk to that are a few hundred feet from the parking area.)
Usually we meet at an overlook and you follow me in your car from one spot to the next.
You can do the tours at any point, but typically I take people to the Central District of Skyline Drive because the “good” overlooks are closer together there and we can spend more time shooting and less time driving!
Doing a photography tour is also a great option for bridge season — meaning March-April when it’s still bitterly cold in the spring or November-ish when it’s getting bitterly cold in late fall. It’s also a great option for when you want to include your dog in some but not all of the photos. They can hang out in the car for some of the locations and come out for others.
During the tour we typically hit about 4-6 spots and stay at each location for 10-15 minutes, which means you’re never out in the cold (or heat) for too long!
Most of the hikes I take couples on are not lengthy, but the summits are generally exposed and windy. When it is cold on Skyline Drive, you can expect the wind chill to take it down another 10-15 degrees on top of the mountain. Of course, expect some wind on Skyline as well — it’s just a little less!
Rachel and Chris booked their engagement session as part of a wedding package and I am SO excited for their wedding later this year. Although they were technically engaged at the time of the shoot, Chris wanted to do a proper proposal. So midway through the shoot, we sneakily stole the ring back and Chris got to get down on one knee, read a letter and reaffirmed that yes, indeed, Rachel still wants to marry him!
