Blacksburg Photography Location: Heritage Community Park

If you’re looking for a photography session location in Blacksburg with mountain views then consider Heritage Community Park and Natural Area. 

Heritage Community Park is the largest park in Blacksburg with 169 acres of natural area. There are greenways throughout it, large meadows, mountain views and a wildflower garden. It’s accessible, doesn’t require a hike to get mountain views and is beautiful. It’s also across the street from an excellent brewery you can visit before or after your session! 

In other words, it’s an incredible location for your Blacksburg photography session. 

If you have kids and are looking for the best place for a family photography session in Blacksburg, this might be it as well. That’s because there is an incredible natural playground at the park behind the old farm ruins. My kids absolutely love it!

We got there just before sunset on a Friday. Even though this is a very popular place for all kinds of recreation, we were able to find a private place for their session. 

We walked down the Huckleberry Trail a little ways before cutting over into the meadow. They brought two props for their announcement – ultrasound pictures and a beautiful neutral sweater.

We started off like I would any session to get them super comfortable in front of the camera and then used the props for the rest. 

After exploring the meadow, we walked back to the parking area and headed the other direction. We walked by the pond and toward the farm ruins to get some photos by a wildflower garden. 

This was such a fun, joy-filled time to photograph for them. If you are looking for a cute, non-cheesy way to announce your pregnancy let me know! I would LOVE to shoot more of these types of sessions. 

Here are a few tips for your own pregnancy announcement: 

• Take a few minutes to “warm up” in front of the camera without your props. 
• Props can feel kind of cheesy, but it’s an announcement! Lean into the goofiness and practice letting your inner child out :). Play with it. 
• Plan a date night around the photo session. Go out to dinner afterward, have a picnic, get ice cream. 
• Wear clothes you feel comfortable and confident in. Pregnancy body changes are no joke (take it from someone who has had two pregnancies) so flowy dresses can be your friend!
