Here’s how it usually goes:

1. I hike up early with my dog, a friend or my book and hang out like a normal visitor.
2. When you arrive, I ask you to take a quick photo of me on my phone.
3. Then I offer, “Want one too?”
4. We take a casual smiling shot, and then I say something like, “Let’s do an Instagram-y one! Face the mountains together.”
5. You drop to one knee.
6. I’m already photographing everything from the perfect angle AND i’ve “told” you exactly where I want you to stand ;).

If you want something more structured, you can also use the “we won a photoshoot!” plan so your partner knows to dress up.

Step 4: Download Offline Google Maps Before You Go

This part is so important. Cell service inside Shenandoah National Park is extremely unreliable. Before proposal day, make sure you:
