Lexi and Keegan knew from the start that a traditional wedding wasn’t for them. Having attended several, they both felt turned off by the amount of waste, pressure, and the endless list of expectations that often come with big weddings. Lexi didn’t want to feel obligated to follow traditions just for the sake of it, nor did she subscribe to the idea that a wedding day had to be “the best day of your entire life.” More than anything, she wanted to be able to truly connect with her loved ones rather than just making rounds during dinner.
For Keegan, the decision was just as clear. He never had a strong desire for a big wedding, seeing it as an expensive and stressful event that didn’t align with what truly mattered to them. He’d been to plenty of weddings and noticed how much stress couples often endured just to keep up with expectations. Instead of feeling obligated to entertain a huge crowd or collect gifts from distant relatives, he wanted their wedding to be an intimate and enjoyable experience—one focused on their love, not logistics.
Lexi and Keegan’s story began in grad school at Virginia Tech, where they bonded over their shared love for hiking, camping, and pushing themselves to learn new skills together. That adventurous spirit carried through to their engagement—Keegan proposed during a trail run while they were training for an ultramarathon! It was only fitting that their wedding day reflected the same love for the outdoors and meaningful, intentional experiences.
The couple chose a charming farmhouse Airbnb in Luray as their home base for the weekend. With its picturesque surroundings and peaceful atmosphere, it provided the perfect space for them to get ready together, share heartfelt moments, and prepare for their ceremony in a stress-free environment.
Instead of a traditional venue, Lexi and Keegan exchanged vows in the yard of their Airbnb, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The intimate setting made for a deeply personal ceremony, with the golden hues of early October casting a warm glow over their special moment.
After the ceremony, they enjoyed a heavy “cocktail hour” at the airbnb with their guests. Then we headed into Shenandoah National Park to capture their adventure portraits. With dramatic mountain views and vibrant early fall colors beginning to appear, every spot felt like a dream backdrop. Cloud inversions hung in the mountains and at one point a beautiful fog rolled in. We visited a few hidden overlooks along Skyline Drive, which allowed them to soak in the views, enjoy quiet moments together, and celebrate their love in a way that felt completely authentic to them.
Lexi and Keegan wrapped up their elopement day in the best way possible—an intimate evening with dinner, cocktails, and a campfire back at Broadporch Coffee in Luray. The laid-back, cozy atmosphere gave them time to reflect on the day, share stories with their loved ones, and simply enjoy being married.
Lexi and Keegan’s elopement took place in early October, one of the best times to plan a wedding in Shenandoah National Park. The early fall season means fewer crowds compared to peak foliage in mid-October, making it easier to find quiet, scenic spots for portraits and private moments. The weather is also ideal—cooler temperatures without the summer humidity, and beautiful golden light that enhances the stunning mountain landscapes.
If you’re considering an intimate wedding in Luray or Shenandoah, Lexi and Keegan’s day is proof that you can have a meaningful, adventure-filled elopement without sacrificing comfort and relaxation. Whether you’re drawn to mountain views, cozy Airbnb stays, or the simplicity of a private ceremony, there are endless ways to make your day uniquely yours.
