The Meadows at Castleton is one of the only wedding venues in scenic Rappahannock County, right outside of Culpeper, Virginia. It’s actually one of my favorite wedding venues in Virginia because it’s incredibly beautiful, versatile and there are a plethora of on site accommodations for your guests. Bonus for me: it’s only a few minutes away from my family farm!
Back in the day, the original owner of the Meadows at Castleton estate was a world renowned conductor name Lorin Maazel. In the late 90’s, the Maazels started a Waldorf School on the property for their children. I actually attended that school as a kid. So coming back to this property to photograph weddings is always kind of surreal.
To date, I’ve photographed three weddings at this property.
The first one was an elopement where they used two of the houses on the site for getting ready and portraits and then had their ceremony and reception in Shenandoah National Park.
The second one was a micro wedding. They also had their ceremony in Shenandoah National Park, but came back to the property for a private chef cooked dinner reception.
The third was a true wedding all on site that used the homes for getting ready and the Marquee tent for their reception.
One of the the things I love about the Meadows at Castleton (which I’ve always heard called “Castleton Meadows”) is that there are 11 guest houses on the estate property. These houses can sleep up to 80 people. This means you can literally have your entire guest list stay on site with you for the weekend. This might be the only venue in the state you can do that, unless you’re using a hotel, of course.
Not only that, but the 550 acre estate has five miles of paved trails, 3 outdoor tennis courts, outdoor and indoor pools, a fitness center, a world class performing arts center, basketball, volleyball, billiards, foosball, ping-pong, table tennis, and a pond with rowboats, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boards.
You can basically plan a weekend getaway for your entire guest list. Imagine!
Even if you don’t want everyone to stay on site with you, the venue can accommodate celebrations ranging from a two-person elopement to a 200+ person guest list.
And it’s only an hour and half from Washington, D.C and 30 minutes to the entrance for Shenandoah National Park.
If I don’t have you convinced yet that this incredible hidden gem of a wedding venue is for you, then check out Martha and James’ beautiful photos, fall in love with it and shoot me a message — let’s create some magic for you at Castleton Meadows
